Espresso Machine Reviews - A Top Five Espresso Machine Review

!±8± Espresso Machine Reviews - A Top Five Espresso Machine Review

When you are driving to your local coffee house each day wondering, "Could I get the same tasting espresso, at home?" Yes, you can for even less per day then a trip to Starbucks and this can be accomplished right in your own kitchen.

I have reviewed my top five espresso machines; so you as the consumer can begin to understand that whether you are an aspiring barista, or have just started making espresso, you can enjoy making and drinking your favorite hot beverage.

There are a few different types of espresso makers I will review, from the automatic machines that can do everything from grind the beans, heat your cup, and tell you when it's time to clean the machine.

Be prepared for a higher price when you review the automatic machine, but if you are looking for the espresso maker that can do all the things I mentioned above then this may be what you are looking for.

If you are sticker shy, and don't want to spend more than a few hundred dollars there are some other options you may want to try, such as a one touch brewer without all the bells and whistles that go with the automatic.

Let's review my top five Espresso Machines:

DeLonghi Magnifica Espresso Maker

Made in Italy where they know espresso! One of my favorites I have reviewed is the Delonghi Magnifica Espresso Machine because this machine does it all, grind, brew, and it tells you when it needs to be cleaned! With purchasing the DeLonghi system you will receive a 25 oz. milk container and two detachable lids, one for frothed milk to make cappuccinos and the other for steamed milk to make lattes if that is your desire.

A hot water spout for tea and even hot chocolate for the kiddies! This espresso maker will give any aspiring barista a leg up on learning to make the best cup of espresso! The DeLonghi Magnifica is one of the espresso makers that is on the high end of pricing, but as you have seen, it does everything for you!

All you need to do is sit back and enjoy that quick cup of espresso without leaving the kitchen!

Breville Barista Express

Enjoy a 15 bar Italian-designed thermoblock pump and integrated tamper, that allows you to tamp it to your personal preference! All this while the Breville Barista is still sitting on the counter and attached to the machine. You will enjoy the "art" of making the perfect cup of espresso with this espresso maker.

Another characteristic is a non-pressurized cafe style single-wall filter which allows you to experiment with your grind size and tamping pressure to your specific taste! By purchasing this espresso maker you may find that its a little more affordable for those interested in the "automatic" espresso maker.

Cuisinart EM-100 Espresso Maker

Allows you to make that professional cup of espresso plus cappuccino or latte right in your own kitchen. The Cuisinart EM-100 has the capability to heat cups on the warming plate, so you are ready to enjoy your espresso with a warm cup!

If your not into espresso this model includes the feature that allows you to dispense hot water if you don't want espresso, and wish to have tea or cocoa. With the Cuisinart EM-100 you will find many of the most popular options, like the ability to brew one to two cups anytime of the day!

This model is capable of pumping out the wet grounds after each use with a porta-filter holder that locks into place. Easy clean up is also a great aspect of an automatic espresso maker, never worry about stale tasting espresso!

Plus, a DVD to show you exactly how to brew the best cup of espresso just like a professional barista! Leave it to the manufacturers of Cuisinart to "show you the way" to perfect brewing of espresso or your other favorite hot beverage.

DeLonghi EC-155 Espresso Maker

You will enjoy two thermostats for separately controlling water and steam pressure. This espresso maker not only makes espresso, you will also enjoy a great cup of cappuccino both served at the perfect temperature. Because the repetitive question for all espresso makers, will it be the right temperature for me?

With the DeLonghi EC-155 you can use both E.S.E pods and ground espresso. It will not ground the espresso for you, but if you are just starting out this may be a great purchase for you if the end result you want is a hot cup of espresso.

All without leaving the house or purchasing a high tech maker that does everything for you from start to finish. A great buy for the price and capabilities.

Mr. Coffee ECMP50

Finally, if you are still thinking, I don't want to even spend 0 dollars on a new espresso maker, well, with the Mr. Coffee ECMP50, you can enjoy "some" of the same characteristics as the 0 dollar priced machines.

The Mr. Coffee is accompanied by a thermal block heater which gives you the best cup of espresso that brews quickly and at the right temperature.

In addition, a powerful milk frother for that perfect cup of crema. Granted, this machine is lower priced but again, if you are not sure about making espresso at home, this may be the ticket.

The Two Basic Types of Gourmet Coffee

!±8± The Two Basic Types of Gourmet Coffee

Gourmet coffee...if you love it, it goes far beyond a pleasant experience. It can easily become a passion, a raison d'etre, a delicious indulgence. It is, if not the sole reason, at least a primary incentive for getting me out of bed in the morning.

With all the choices on the market, how do I choose which beans to brew?

For me, it starts with flavor. Whether I choose a straight dark roast, a sweet flavored coffee or a spicy seasonal bean, the flavor must have a good balance. While the industry continues to turn out new varieties to tickle the market's collective taste buds, there is something pure and robust about a traditional, strong roast.

My go-to bean, safely tucked in my pantry, is the ubiquitous Arabica bean. It's bold and distinctive taste offers a judicious balance of smoky darkness and sweet caramelized flavors. It brews up a strong, dark cup of coffee, suitable to a wide majority of coffee lovers' palates. All else could fall away, and I'd still have my Arabica beans, so life could go on.

Still, despite my love, I can't commit to an exclusive relationship with Arabic. Why the waffling? Robusta. Due to its stronger caffeine kick, the Robusta bean is gaining a foothold in the gourmet coffee marketplace. With almost twice the caffeine content as the Arabica bean, it is the brew of choice for those who need that extra dose of jumpstart in their morning brew. The intensity is extreme, and it takes me to a different place. Perfect for those times when I need a jolt, something to make me sit up and take notice.

So where do you lean? Are you more of an Arabica fan, or do you crave the kick of the Robusta bean? I say commitment, when it comes to gourmet coffee, is over-rated. Play the field, shop around, and never settle for a mediocre cup. Life's too short to drink bad coffee!
